CareerMarga is an AI-powered career platform accessible at career-marga.vercel.app that helps students and professionals advance their careers through tools such as AI Resume Building, ATS Resume Scoring, AI Mock Interviews, Skill Gap Analysis, Career Coaching, Job Tracking, Learning Roadmaps, Portfolio Building, and more.

This Privacy Policy describes how CareerMarga collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects your personal information when you use our platform, services, and related applications (collectively, the “Services”). By accessing or using CareerMarga, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you register for an account, we collect your full name, email address, and a securely hashed password (if you use email/password registration). If you sign in via Google OAuth, we receive your name, email address, and Google profile picture from Google.

2.2 Profile Information

To personalize your experience and provide tailored career recommendations, we collect information you choose to provide in your profile, including your educational background, academic institution, degree, graduation year, field of study, work experience, skills, career goals, target job roles, and location preferences.

2.3 Uploaded Resume Files

When you use our AI Resume Builder, ATS Resume Score, or Resume Analysis features, you may upload resume files (commonly in PDF, DOCX, or TXT format). These files may contain personal information including your contact details, employment history, educational credentials, and other information you have included in your resume. We process and store these files to provide the requested AI analysis and scoring services.

2.4 Portfolio Data

When you use our Portfolio Builder feature, we collect and store the portfolio content you create, including project descriptions, links, images, and supporting materials you voluntarily upload or input.

2.5 Job Preferences and Tracking Data

When using our Job Tracking feature, we collect information about job applications you log, including job titles, company names, application dates, interview stages, outcomes, and notes you add. We also collect your job preferences such as desired role, industry, salary expectations, and work location type.

2.6 AI Chat Conversations

When you interact with our AI Chat Assistant, AI Career Coach, AI Interview Preparation tools, or AI Mock Interview features, we collect and store the conversation history, your inputs, and the AI-generated responses. This data is used to provide the service, maintain session continuity, improve response quality, and personalise your career coaching experience.

2.7 Device and Usage Information

We automatically collect certain technical information when you access our Services, including your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, referring URLs, pages visited, time spent on pages, click patterns, and other usage statistics. This information is collected through standard server logs and analytics technologies.

2.8 Cookies and Similar Tracking Technologies

We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, support authentication, and gather analytics data. We collect authentication tokens, session identifiers, and related security metadata to verify your identity and maintain the security of your account. If you use Google Sign-In, we receive and store an OAuth access token scoped only to the permissions you have explicitly granted.

• Providing and Improving the Services: To operate, maintain, and improve CareerMarga, including all AI-powered features such as resume analysis, mock interviews, career coaching, and skill gap analysis.
• Personalisation: To tailor content, career recommendations, learning roadmaps, and AI responses to your individual career goals and profile.
• Account Management: To create and manage your account, authenticate your identity, process account settings changes, and communicate account-related notifications.
• AI and Machine Learning Processing: To generate AI-powered insights, resume scores, interview feedback, and career guidance by processing your uploaded documents and conversation inputs through our AI systems.
• Security and Fraud Prevention: To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activity, abuse, and security incidents, and to enforce our Terms of Service.
• Analytics and Product Improvement: To analyse usage patterns, measure feature effectiveness, conduct research, and make data-driven decisions to improve CareerMarga.
• Communications: To send you service-related emails (such as account verification, password reset, and important policy updates) and, with your consent, product updates and career tips.
• Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, and enforceable governmental requests.
• Customer Support: To respond to your inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support.

4. Google Sign-In Information

CareerMarga offers Google Sign-In (via Google OAuth 2.0) as an authentication method. When you choose to sign in with Google, we receive the following information from Google, subject to your Google account's privacy settings and the permissions you grant:

• Your Google account name
• Your Google account email address
• Your Google profile picture URL
• A unique Google user identifier

We do not receive, store, or have access to your Google account password, Google Drive files, Gmail messages, Google contacts, or any other Google data beyond the scopes explicitly requested for authentication purposes.

The information received through Google Sign-In is used solely to create and authenticate your CareerMarga account, personalise your experience, and communicate with you via email. You may revoke CareerMarga's access to your Google account at any time through your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Revoking access will not delete your CareerMarga account; however, you will need to set a password to continue logging in.

CareerMarga's use of Google user data is governed by Google's OAuth 2.0 policies and adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

5. AI Processing Disclaimer

CareerMarga uses artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to power core features including Resume Analysis, ATS Scoring, AI Mock Interviews, Career Coaching, Skill Gap Analysis, and the AI Chat Assistant.

AI-generated outputs — including resume scores, interview feedback, career advice, and coaching responses — are generated programmatically and represent automated analysis. They are not professional career counselling, legal advice, or guaranteed employment guidance. You should exercise independent judgment when acting on AI-generated recommendations.

We take measures to minimise the amount of personally identifiable information transmitted to AI processing systems and, where possible, use anonymisation or pseudonymisation techniques. However, we cannot guarantee that AI providers will not retain processed inputs according to their own data retention policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of applicable AI providers.

We do not use your personal data to train AI models without your explicit, informed consent.

6. File Upload Handling

When you upload resume files or other documents to CareerMarga, the following applies:

• Uploaded files are stored securely in cloud storage infrastructure. Access is restricted to authorised CareerMarga systems and personnel with a legitimate need.
• Files are used to extract relevant career information for the purpose of providing AI analysis, scoring, and feedback.
• You retain ownership of all files you upload. Uploading a file to CareerMarga grants us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and process the file solely for the purpose of providing the requested services.
• We do not share your uploaded files with third parties except as necessary to deliver the AI processing services described in Section 5 above.
• You may delete your uploaded files at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion, files are removed from our active systems, though they may persist in backup storage for a limited period as described in Section 8.
• We recommend that you do not upload files containing highly sensitive information such as government-issued identification numbers, financial account details, or medical information beyond what is typical in a professional resume.

7. Third-Party Services

CareerMarga integrates with or relies upon the following categories of third-party services to operate the platform. Each third party has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:

• Google OAuth (Google LLC):Used for optional “Sign in with Google” authentication. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Vercel (Vercel Inc.): Our primary hosting and deployment infrastructure provider. Vercel may process request data as part of edge network delivery. Governed by Vercel's Privacy Policy.
• AI Model Providers: We use OpenAI-compatible AI infrastructure to power our AI features. Content submitted to AI features may be processed by these providers in accordance with their data usage policies. We select providers who offer appropriate data protection agreements for enterprise use.
• Cloud Storage: We use cloud object storage services to securely store uploaded files and generated content. Storage providers are selected based on compliance, security certifications, and data residency options.
• Analytics Providers: We may use analytics tools to understand user behaviour and improve our platform. Where possible, we configure these tools to anonymise or aggregate data before transmission.
• Email Service Providers: We use transactional email services to deliver account-related notifications and communications.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not share your personal data with third parties for their independent marketing purposes.

8. Data Security

9. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

• Account Data: Retained for the duration of your account and for a reasonable period following account deletion to allow for account recovery and to comply with legal requirements.
• Uploaded Files: Retained until you delete them through your account settings, or until your account is deleted, after which files are removed from active systems within 30 days. Backup copies may be retained for up to 90 days.
• AI Conversation History: Retained to provide session continuity and improve your experience. You may request deletion of your conversation history by contacting us at support@careermarga.app.
• Analytics and Usage Data: Typically retained in anonymised or aggregated form for up to 24 months.
• Communication Records: Retained for a period consistent with our legal and compliance obligations.

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time as described in Section 12.

10. Children's Privacy

CareerMarga is not directed to individuals under the age of 13 (“children”). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately at support@careermarga.app.

If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete such information promptly. Users between the ages of 13 and 18 should obtain parental consent before using CareerMarga.

11. International Users

CareerMarga is operated and managed in India and hosted on cloud infrastructure that may process data in multiple regions. If you access our Services from outside India, your information may be transferred to and processed in India or other countries where our service providers operate.

By using CareerMarga, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than those in your country of residence. We take steps to ensure that such transfers comply with applicable data protection laws and that your data receives adequate protection.

13. Delete Account Request

You may request deletion of your CareerMarga account and associated personal data at any time. To initiate an account deletion:

• Via Account Settings:Navigate to your account settings within the CareerMarga dashboard and select the “Delete Account” option, if available.
• Via Email: Send an email to support@careermarga.appwith the subject line “Account Deletion Request” from the email address associated with your account.

Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will:

• Delete or anonymise your account information and profile data within 30 days
• Remove your uploaded files from active storage within 30 days
• Remove your AI conversation history from active systems within 30 days
• Retain certain information as required by law, for fraud prevention, or for the resolution of disputes, for up to 90 days in backup systems before permanent deletion

Please note that account deletion is irreversible. Deleted accounts cannot be restored, and all associated data will be permanently removed.
